John is a social entrepreneur who believes business can be a catalyst for sustainable social impact. After serving as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps, John focused his career on empowering individuals impacted by generational poverty, incarceration, addiction, human trafficking and domestic violence. Over the last twenty years, John has served on several non-profit boards and assisted with the creation and/or growth of nearly thirty social enterprises in Chicago, Cleveland and Columbus.
In 2011 a handful of interested investors recruited John to launch CleanTurn Enterprises. CleanTurn launched in January 2012 and has since that time become Central Ohio’s leading social enterprise accelerator. CleanTurn has provided over 600 training and employment opportunities through four distinct brands (CleanTurn Demolition Services; She Has A Name Cleaning Services; Passion, Purpose, Profit and Third Way Cafe) and has consulted/ assisted several others resulting in a social and economic return of over twenty-five million dollars in Central Ohio.
John holds five Master’s degrees focused on urban studies, religion, history, non-profit management and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. John is married with eight children and currently resides on the southwest side of Columbus.
